Teams of doctors, nurses and healthcare workers will go head to head in a charity game to support Derian House Children’s Hospice.
Staff from local NHS organisations across Lancashire will battle it out in the T20 match, with the winners being crowned North West NHS Champions.
The contest is being held at Adlington Cricket Club on Sunday, 8 August, alongside a family fun day which includes alpacas, inflatables, face painting, performances from local dance troops, DJs, live music and magic.
Event organiser, Michael Bowers, is excited at the prospect of bringing people together whilst supporting the hospice:
“This event is bringing together the local community and NHS heroes from local hospital surgical departments in the hope that we can enjoy some well-needed family time while supporting local small businesses and artists and of course to raise money for Derian House.
“I have been overwhelmed by the generosity of local businesses who have provided raffle prizes to help us raise as much money as possible for this very worthy cause.”
Derian House is a Chorley-based charity that cares for more than 400 children and young people with serious conditions from across the North West, helping them to make the most of every moment.
Sarah Proctor, Community Fundraiser at Derian House Children’s Hospice, expressed how delighted the hospice is to once again have fundraising events going ahead after a tough year:
“The past 18 months have been challenging at Derian House. We saw our income fall dramatically as a result of the cancellation of fundraising events and closure of our charity shops. Despite this, we continued to be there for local children and families needing our help. We could not have done this without the incredible support of our local community and this event is a chance for everyone to have some fun.
“We’re really excited to be involved with the NHS cricket tournament now that events are restarting. We are so grateful to Michael for organising and to Adlington Cricket Club for hosting and we hope everyone will come along support local businesses, thank our local NHS heroes and support Derian House.”
