Top 5 Fish & Chips Shops In Preston

National Fish and Chips Day is coming up this Sunday 7th June so we are taking a look at the best shops in Preston to get the battered delicacy.

The king of comfort foods, the fish and chip shop dates back to as early as 1860 with Lancashire and London both claiming to have invented the dish which would go to feed families up and down the country to this day.

It’s fair to say as a nation we adopted the dish with open arms, according to NFFF, there are around 10,500 chippys in the UK and a staggering £1.2 billion is spent on the meal each year.

Whether it’s a lunchtime special or a Friday night treat, fish and chips is a meal that the UK is known for and we certainly know how to make it well, some more than others which is what will be looking at right now.

5. The Queen Vic

Kicking off the list is a chippy which might not have been around as long as the rest but has wasted no time building an excellent reputation. Based on Moor Lane, The Queen Vic Fish and Chips is known for good portions for a cheap price and is unlucky not to be higher up on the list.

4. Andreas

Family run since 1992, Andreas on Liverpool Road in Penwortham has won many awards for its continued quality throughout the years.

One thing is for certain, when you go to Andreas, you will be spoilt for choice as their menu offers everything a traditional chippy would including potato scollops and fishcakes, and you can get a kebab, a burger or a selection of greek meals.

3. Evan’s

The top 3 is where it really starts to get tricky as all could be deserving of the top spot and Evan’s Fish & Chips just misses out. Based on Blackpool Road, Evan’s is an all-rounder, good quality with a variety of options to choose from at a great price.

The thing that sets this chippy apart from the rest is the option to have almost anything battered, you can order black pudding, spam, mushroom or pineapple all battered. If we have any Scottish people reading, they even do battered haggis.

2. West End Fish Bar

Both Chippys fighting it out for number 1 have a long history in Preston and have been the staple part of many families Friday nights for many years. Based on Blackpool Road, West End Fish Bar is well renowned for its quality and portion size. As traditional as it gets, golden fluffy chips that aren’t too greasy.

1. Umbertos

Anyone who has lived in Preston for a long time will know all about Umberto’s. Umberto Frediani has been feeding Preston families since 1973 and is known all across the city.

In that time the quality has not wavered for a second, crispy golden batter cooked to perfection. Lunchtime deals that are so popular it often causes queues on Watery Lane. Might not be as cheap as the other options but you know you are getting great quality.
