Lahori Xpress Review; Preston’s Newest Hidden Gem

Tonight, we decided to try what can only be described as Preston’s newest hidden gem; Lahori Xpress. 

A Desi-Cuisine takeaway in the heart of Preston, Lahori Xpress offers all the classics you would expect from an Indian takeaway such as the Tikka Masala, Korma and Biryani, but also offers something new and different from its competitors.    

When my fiancé and I arrived, we were open to ideas for what to have, deciding that we’d look at the menu and go from there. When we entered, we were greeted by two members of the team hard at work in the kitchen, but more than happy to offer advice on what to order. Every single staff member was welcoming and friendly, adding to the whole experience. 

To start our takeaway off correctly, we chose the Chicken Tikka Kebab, Spiced Lamb and Chicken kebabs. These were full of flavour, with a variety of spices used to compliment each meat in a different way. This was also accompanied by poppadoms with a generous selection of sauces and chutneys ready to dip.  

Because of the warm welcoming atmosphere, I decided to ask for recommendations of what to have; something I definitely do not regret. The Lahori Chicken Charga, the house special, is something I would never have normally picked myself, but after having it recommended, I’m so glad I did. A large full chicken, marinated in spices and then fried to perfection, it is the perfect combination of flavour and spice. The chicken was cooked expertly, with the meat falling away from the bone with ease. The dish was served with a generous portion of chips, so it’s safe to say that portion sizes are not an issue at Lahori Xpress! 

My fiancé decided to stick with the classic Chicken Tikka Masala, something that she thinks she is a connoisseur of having tried every curry house in Bolton and Preston. By the end of the first mouthful, she’d declared this Tikka Masala the best she’d ever tasted. A nice thick and rich sauce with juicy chicken breast chunks throughout the dish was made even better by the two perfectly baked naan breads that accompanied it. Because of the thick consistency of the sauce, the naans were perfect for dipping. You don’t have to worry about the weak and watery sauce of Tikka Masala nightmares here! 

The takeaway’s tagline certainly fits its cuisine: ‘Dine Out at Home’. All the food was restaurant quality, cooked fresh to order and very fairly priced. Considering that the takeaway has only been opened two weeks, it is clearly a popular addition to the Preston culinary community, with it being busy, through the phones, online deliveries and in person orders.  

It may be hidden away on Terrace Street, but that just adds to the takeaway’s charm. I feel like I’m part of an exclusive club now, knowing about this takeaway that provides unbelievably tasty food, fast service and a welcoming atmosphere, all at a reasonable price. If you’re looking for a new Indian takeaway, or just want to try somewhere different, you’d be silly to miss out on Lahori Xpress.
