Shine for Sian Cross Bay Walk raises £4,000 for Lancashire Mind

Written by Anthony Gilmour

People from across Lancashire came together on a charity walk to support the mental health charity in memory of Sian Waterhouse.

Shine for Sian was created by Paul ‘Pud’ Waterhouse and his family after the loss of their beloved daughter Sian.

Over the past 18 months, Pud and his family have worked tirelessly to raise awareness of mental health and raise funds for Lancashire Mind.

Over 70 people walked over 6 miles across ‘the bay’ from Arnside to Grange Over Sands to raise awareness and funds for better mental health in Lancashire.

Walkers raised a staggering £4,000, with many of them raising funds and walking in memory of Sian Waterhouse, 16, as part of Shine for Sian.

The fundraising event to support Lancashire Mind and Shine for Sian was the first face-to-face event since March 2020 for the charity.

The campaign places a spotlight on mental health and donates all fundraising proceeds to Lancashire Mind. To date, the Shine for Sian campaign has raised over £50,000 for Lancashire Mind.

Fundraising Lead for Lancashire Mind, Emma Bateson, expressed how great it was to be able to host a face-to-face fundraising event for the first time in over a year:

“The Cross Bay Walk was a really special day. It has been so long since we have been able to hold a face-to-face event and there really is nothing better for us than getting to meet the people who support us and thank them in person.”

Emma was thankful for all the hard work the Waterhouse family has done to raise money and awareness for the charity:

“Sian’s family and friends have been an incredible support to Lancashire Mind and continue to raise so much awareness for the charity and we can not thank them enough for this. We hope to be a part of this event again in 2022 continuing to remember Sian, and raise funds and awareness to help others.”
