1. Borsdane Wood

An ancient semi-natural woodland, Borsdane Wood has been a continuous forest since before 1600 AD. Spanning approximately 85 acres, it boasts native tree species like oak, ash, and birch. The woodland trails alongside Borsdane Brook offer a serene escape for nature enthusiasts.

2. Prestolee Village

Dubbed the “Island Village,” Prestolee is encircled by water—the River Irwell and the Manchester, Bolton & Bury Canal. Its unique geography and historic structures, including the Grade II listed Prestolee Aqueduct, make it a picturesque spot for leisurely walks and photography. ​

3. Moses Gate Country Park

4. Seven Acres Country Park

This Local Nature Reserve, more than 300 years old, offers a mosaic of habitats, including heathland, grassland, and woodlands. Home to over 70 bird species and numerous butterflies and dragonflies, it’s a delightful spot for wildlife observation and tranquil walks. ​

5. Horrocks Fold

A quaint hamlet on the southern slopes of the West Pennine Moors, Horrocks Fold consists of historic cottages and converted farm buildings. It’s an excellent starting point for hikes, offering trails leading to Horrocks Fold Wood, Scout Road, and Barrow Bridge.

6. Smithills Hall

One of Bolton’s oldest manor houses, Smithills Hall dates back to the 15th century. Visitors can explore its well-preserved rooms, learn about its rich history, and enjoy the surrounding gardens and woodlands. The hall often hosts events and exhibitions, providing insights into Bolton’s heritage. ​
